Project Overview
Project Name: Hardwick Community Centre
Location: Hardwick Recreation Grounds, Hardwick Sports & Social Club, CB23 7XR
Client: Hardwick Parish Council
Project Objectives
The primary objective is to design and construct a self-sustaining Community Centre that will serve as a hub for activities, functions and social gatherings. The building should be sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing, integrating seamlessly with the existing Pavilion Building.
A Planning Application (20/01502/FUL) was made in March 2022 to South Cambs District Council and was granted permission in July 2022. The Council had to abandon this earlier project on cost grounds.
Key Requirements
General Requirements
Solar panels and air source heat pump: Design consideration should be given for the accommodation of photovoltaic (PV) panels for renewable energy and an air source heat pump for underfloor heating.
Integration with Existing Pavilion: The new building should be designed potentially to join with the existing Pavilion, allowing for shared services where appropriate and feasible.
Location: Area east and south east of Hardwick Pavilion. Up to 3m of Multi Use Games Area [MUGA] available if required
Specific Spaces
Apart from main hall dimensions other dimensions are approximate.
1. Main Hall
Dimensions: 15m x 10m with 4.5 to 5 m height
Purpose: Functions, sports activities and social gatherings
Features: Flexible layout to accommodate various events, sustainable materials and finishes, adequate storage, and good acoustics.
Hall store: 10sqm
2. Café
Capacity: 40 people
Area: 60 sqm
Kitchen: 20 sqm including store, fridge freezer, induction hob, electric fan ovens, wall mounted water boiler for hot drinks, commercial coffee machine, catering dishwasher, sink and 2 tier prep table.
Features: Comfortable seating, easy access to kitchen, and potential for outdoor seating, kitchen to be used by main hall.
3. Toilets
Design: Accessible and inclusive facilities; unisex preferred, in any case number to comply with regulations including disabled, and baby change facilities.
4. Community Room
Purpose: To be used for community activities, meetings, and events
Dimensions: Flexible space about 20-25 sqm
5. Office
Purpose: Self explanatory
Dimensions: about 7 sqm
6. Other
Purpose: Cleaners cupboard, plant room, wi-fi enabled
Budget
The total budget for the project is £1,400,000. This includes:
